SAM IDUSTRIAL VALVES SUPPORT GROUP

Application:

In any fluid handling system, valves are the controlling element: starting or stopping the flow, regulating or throttling the flow, preventing backflow, or relieving and regulating pressure.

SAM Cast Iron and Bronze valves are universally accepted by industry for a wide variety of applications. They are regularly manufactured in sizes ranging, for the Cast Iron Valves from ½ to 16 inches (DN 15 to DN 400), for Bronze Valves ranging from ½ to 3 inches (DN 15 to DN 80) which are suitable for pressures from 6 to 25 Kg/cm2 and temperature up to 110oC for water and 280oC for steam applications.

Size Designation:

The prefix letter DN are used internationally to indicate the metric nominal size. The definition is currently given in ISO 6708 and internationally is given below. Valves having flanges to DN standards will be designated by Nominal Diameter (DN) or by Nominal Pie Size (NPS) in inches.

Nominal Diameter:

A numerical designation of size, which is common to all components in a piping system other than components, designated by outside diameter or by thread size. It is a convenient round number for reference purposes and is only loosely related to manufacturing demotions. Nominal diameter is designated by the letter “DN” followed by a number.

Nominal Pipe Size (NPS):

A designation of size, in inches, which is common to all components in a Piping system other than those components designated by outside diameter. It is a convenient number for reference purpose and is normally only loosely related to manufacturing dimensions.

Nominal pipe size is designated by the letter NPS followed by a number.

NPS used only in association with the class system. A comparison of imperial (NPS) and metric (DN) nominal diameter is shown in the table below.

Nominal Pressure:

The nominal pressure is a numerical designation relating to pressure that is convenient round number for reference purpose (quoted from ISO 7268).

Nominal pressures specified in stages based on preferred numbers.

Components designated with the same nominal pressure and of the same nominal size have the same mating dimensions.
